After all that time and the painstaking effort it took to get this far… of COURSE it had to be 2020, of all years, that I reached the end of this particular road.
Talk about horrible timing.
But a victory’s a victory, right?
And it all stemmed from the interests in film I garnered during my youth. A childhood hobby is one thing, but at some point as a young adult I found it becoming more of a long-term aspiration.
As a result, my close friends and I made countless videos of various sorts in our free time, through high school and WELL beyond.
The more time we spent doing so, the higher I started aiming in terms of personal goals, quality in what we were making, etc. However, in the long run I’ve found that the true value in what we spent our days doing lies primarily in the memories, the connections forged, and how we grew as individuals along the way.
Myself, for instance— During this stage of my pursuits I approached it all mainly from a directorial standpoint:
(A sense of which I even got to enjoy again when making “Writer’s Block” in 2018)
But along with that I was also dabbling in camerawork, writing, acting, and video editing.
All of which became influential in their own right…
So I knew I had my options by the time I stepped into the college major(s) for TV/Film/Media Production— studying all its aspects, taking on various roles, and making connections all the while. Looking back, I consider every bit of it time well spent.
And through this time of extensive study & experience, I eventually decided which focuses of film/media were for me.
So, while I’ll definitely be looking back fondly on those memories of old for all time…
(with the door always open, certainly, for stepping back into the directing position if the right opportunity comes along)
I would say post-production video editing has become the primary pursuit.
(Because I knew even way back when how satisfying it was to be able to call a project finished at last, and say “I did this” upon viewing it in full)
Falling right in line with that was the animation factor…
…which tends to be its own animal in many respects, but a fulfilling one just the same.
And everything I learned, experienced, and experimented with in terms of acting came into play as well.
However, what I didn’t originally consider was the possibility of putting ALL of that energy into my vocal delivery…
Thus, the voice artistry interest.
But to be perfectly honest— there was one more fascination that caught me the most off-guard in the end:
Behind-the-Scenes Photography, to be precise.
I derive immense pleasure from engaging in all of these, and have found true gratification in the steps I took to reach this point— the personal endeavors, the long-and-winding educational road, and the work I’ve taken part in since— as well as all of the acquaintances & friends who helped me get here.
So any opportunity that presents itself for me to assume the aforementioned roles,
if at all possible…
